Title: Latest download files appear to be corrupt
Post by: dtleahy3 on May 01, 2014, 07:38:14 AM
Aloha,

I still have a working version in my computer (version 11.1 Build 17) If I hit "Check for Updates), I get a small error window:
AutoUpdateW
Run-time error '364'
Object was unloaded

I tried downloading the Update version (innoscript1102005ReleaseUpdate.exe, 13,804kb) and when I try to run it I get the error:

The setup files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program.

I had hoped to update rather than start fresh, hopefully keeping my existing InnoScript project files working. So, I downloaded the new version (InnoScript1102005Release.zip, 13,876kb) and when I try to unzip the file, I get the error
Bad zip header found. Continue anyway? (If I click "yes" I get the same error again.), Then it does appear to unzip and I "see" an exe file, but get
File fails CRC check: "D:\Downloads2\RandemInnoScript\InnoScript1102005Release\InnoScript1102005Release.exe

Is there an alternate source for downloads? I have tried several times, same results.

Dennis
p.s. the CAPTCHA images are ridiculously difficult, especially considering I'm a verified user, logged in. If I "request another image, the entire screen changes and I lose my post. May want to think about backing off of the CAPTCHA within the support forum, please.

Aloha,

You did not say but I imagine you must be on Windows 8. There is a problem with the Automatic Updater on Windows 8 and you can disable it by going to System Options->Options then unchecking Check for Updates on Startup. That will stop the updater from running when you start InnoScript. For now do not use the updater until we fix it for Windows 8, you will have to go to the website to download.

The source for the download is valid and we have tested it various times. We have been getting reports of corrupted downloads but they have been the results of background HTTP backup software interfering with the download.

I will check on the CAPTCHA, but they are needed for BOTS are repeatably making fakes accounts without it.

About the CAPTCHA, after 3 post you will not be required to use it. Sorry for the complication but we have to defend against the BOT's

I'm actually on a WinXP sp3 box (my oldest operating system I'm supporting - I still have customers using it.) I don't own a copy of Win8 (yet), though I'll have to at some point for testing applications and installs.

I'll try temporarily disabling my anti-virus software, and downloading again.

OK,  I will no longer try the updater from inside InnoScript, and it is not running in the background as I try downloading from the web and running locally.

With my anti-virus turned off, the downloaded file sizes ARE different sizes from what they were, but I get the exact same errors.

Update version (innoscript1102005ReleaseUpdate.exe, 10,949kb) and when I try to run it I get the error:

The setup files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program.

New version (InnoScript1102005Release.zip, 9,309kb) and when I try to unzip it I get the same errors as before.

So, please advise on what to try next (maybe email?)

Thanks,

Dennis

p.s. I know what you mean about BOTS, but those have to be the hardest (not all of them, but some of them) CAPTCHA images I have ever seen. I have attached 3 screen captures of doozies for your amusement.

I will lessen the CAPTCHA images...  ;)

Did you download from the post here or have you tried the website again?

I just tried downloading the one here in the forum post (did not notice it before) 16,872kb was the download size, and again, "bad zip headers"

My guess is that you are having trouble with HTTP downloads. I will setup a FTP download to see if that helps.

You are welcome.

BTW: What browser/ browser Add-ins / Anti-Virus etc... are you using? I want to track down the HTTP issue.

You are welcome.

BTW: What browser/ browser Add-ins / Anti-Virus etc... are you using? I want to track down the HTTP issue.

Firefox 29.0 (as of today - I think it updated just today)

Firefox Add-ins:
Adblock Plus 2.6
Download YouTube Videos as MP4 1.7.18
DuckDuckGo Plus 0.3.16
(that one I have just now disabled, but it was enabled/loaded yesterday)
FireFTP 2.0.18
Ghostery 5.2.1
Invite All (for Facebook) initial.rev9.1
Lazarus Form Recovery 2.3
Lightshot 4.6.0
mp3it 1.4.1
MP4 Downloader 1.3.3
Saved Password Editor 2.7.2
Session Manager 0.8.1.1
YouTube to MP3 1.2.4

Anti-virus: AVG free 2013 version 2013.0.3469

I had not been using my FireFTP program lately, instead using FileZilla, but FireFTP popped-up in a context menu when I hit your ftp link, so I used it. And, it successfully ftp transferred (as opposed to http downloaded) the file. I'm sure FileZilla would have worked as well, but just thought I'd report my experience.

Thanks, we use Firefox as well. As for Add-ins , you have a lot. Some of those Add-ins will try to control your HTTP sessions for themselves (I.E. download add-ins).
If you would, could you use a browser with less add-ins to test the HTTP Download? You could use I.E. or FireFox in Safe Mode (no add-ins). I think that may be where the problem lies.

These are all the add-ins that we use here.

Just to be clear, I don't mean in Windows Safe Mode but in I.E. or Firefox safe mode.

I tried with all the download stuff off, and got the same.

I have a copy of "Backblaze" running, and I suspect it may be the problem... testing now.

Yeah, that was it.  Backblaze. A new (for me) backup service, running in the background.

Mystery solved.

Thanks!

Great!!! this can now inform others how to solve the HTTP issue or at least what may be causing the issue. Thanks for your time and assistance.
